For several years now, October is named the small business month in British Columbia. Currently, there are 532,500 small businesses with fewer than 50 employees in BC province. These businesses encompass 98% of businesses in British Columbia which is the second-highest rate in Canada.
What is a small business?
A business is classified as small, medium, or large through different criteria such as revenue and production level. In British Columbia, a small business is defined as a business with fewer than 50 employees, or a business operated by a person as self-employed without paid help.
Why Small Businesses are important for British Columbia?
According to the 2020 BC government report, there are 324,825 self-employed businesses (61%) and 197,025 small businesses with less than 50 employees (37%) are active in British Columbia.
