Which type of MBA fits you?

Full-time MBA

A full-time MBA suits you if you can step away from work for a year or more to change careers or industries. Vancouver has two: UBC Sauder’s 16-month program and SFU Beedie’s program, which pairs 12 months of classes with a 4-month paid internship. Full-time study also makes it easier to join case competitions, clubs and recruiting events.

Part-time and flexible MBA

Part-time programs let you keep your salary and apply what you learn at work right away. UBC’s Professional MBA and SFU’s Flexible MBA both run over about 24 months. SFU’s Management of Technology MBA is built for people already working in technology. Most part-time programs expect several years of work experience.

Executive MBA

Executive MBAs are designed for senior managers and leaders with substantial management experience. Classes are grouped into intensive blocks so participants can keep demanding jobs. SFU Beedie offers a general Executive MBA and an Indigenous Business Leadership Executive MBA, and TWU offers an Executive MBA.

Hybrid and online MBA

UCW and TWU deliver their MBAs in hybrid formats that mix in-person and online learning. SFU’s Flexible MBA can also be taken online. These formats suit people who need flexible schedules or live outside the downtown core.

What an MBA in Vancouver really costs

Tuition is only part of the bill. UBC Sauder estimates living expenses of about $44,350 a year for Canadian students and $45,250 for international students, covering rent, utilities, phone, food and health coverage. Add student fees, which range from about $2,600 at UBC to more than $4,000 a year in SFU’s Flexible MBA, plus course materials.

Per-year and total figures are not directly comparable. UBC’s full-time MBA tuition is quoted per year for a 16-month program. UCW’s and TWU’s figures are totals for the whole degree. Check each school’s fee page for how instalments work.

Scholarships can reduce costs significantly. Most schools consider applicants for entrance awards automatically, and applying in an early round often improves your chances. See each school’s financing page for current awards.

Public vs. private universities, and study permits in 2026

UBC, SFU and UNBC are public universities. UCW and TWU are private universities authorized to grant degrees in British Columbia. The difference matters most for international students.

From January 1, 2026, master’s and doctoral students enrolling at public designated learning institutions no longer need a provincial attestation letter (PAL) with their study permit application, according to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Students at private institutions still need one. Before you accept an offer, confirm with IRCC whether you need a PAL and whether the program is eligible for a post-graduation work permit.
